The group of official texts among Slovene prints and (exceptionally) manuscripts from 18th-century Carinthia is small in volume but complex as regards its content. In the process of functionalization of the Slovene language in social life this group is important in linguistic and simbolic respect. The paper discusses the so-called "patents" and circulars, legal decrees of the authorities. The oldest printed translation from German to Slovene of a decree preserved in Carinthia is dated from 1749.
