Introduction: In modern society, male infertility, due to its rising incidence, is increasingly recognised as an important public health issue, still strongly affected by existing stigma and stereotypes. Its recognition and management are essential for improving reproductive outcomes and reducing the risk of infertility. Therefore, it is important to increase men's awareness of fertility and to involve healthcare personnel to improve knowledge and support male fertility. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to assess men's existing knowledge and awareness of infertility through a literature review and to identify various options for improving awareness using current approaches and the role of nurses. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to assess the existing knowledge and awareness of men about infertility through a literature review and to identify various options for improving awareness using existing approaches and by nurses. Methods: For the preparation of the thesis, we used a descriptive method of work, reviewing scientific and professional literature obtained through the databases of the Digital Library of the University of Ljubljana (DiKul), PubMed/Medline and CINAHL Ultimate. The analysis included 16 scientific articles with freely accessible text, published between 2015 and 2025, in Slovenian and English. Results: We divided the articles into three thematic research areas: the level of general awareness of men about infertility, existing approaches to awareness-raising, and ways to raise awareness of men by nurses. Men were on average less aware than women about the importance of fertility and had insufficient theoretical knowledge. There are various information approaches to raising reproductive literacy that represent the potential for increasing awareness, as their use has been associated with noticeable progress in knowledge. Nurses play an important role in working with infertile couples, as they represent a reliable and trustworthy source of information. At the same time, they support preventive activities, participate in educational programs, and thus provide evidence-based healthcare in various ways. Discussion and conclusion: Nursing represents an important part of a multidisciplinary approach to treating infertile couples, with nurses being included in the entire process. Insufficient treatment of the area of male infertility contributes to a lack of awareness among men, misconceptions, and underestimation of the importance of timely treatment. It is necessary to change the attitude of men towards their own fertility, to encourage them to take responsibility for taking care of their own health and to upgrade their knowledge. Personal counselling by nurses and the systematic inclusion of content on male reproductive health and fertility in curricula are important for early knowledge formation, which contributes to a greater awareness of future generations about the importance of male fertility.
