This article analyzes the characters’ emotions in Janko Kersnik’s Kmetske slike (Scenes of Peasant Life). The work does not contain many complex representations of emotions or direct names of emotions. Instead, the characters largely express their emotions with physical gestures, facial expressions, their eyes, and so on. In addition, the emotions of male characters are shown to a greater extent than those of female characters. Female characters are also more prone to crying, emotional outbursts, and negative emotions in general.
