The Ljubljana Marshes are a unique natural area in Central Slovenia, which is rich in its biodiversity. The article focuses on the effectiveness of nature protection of protected areas in the Ljubljana Marshes. Presented alongside the description of the physical geographic and human geographic characteristics are also the methodology, field evaluation, based on location criteria, criteria of the natural state and orderliness, and criteria of land use. The results point to the fact that natural reservations of the Ljubljana Marshes are, on average, better protected than natural monuments. The article concludes with a presentation of good practices, and further possibilities for the area's development.
