In this article, we discuss so-called phraseologised constructions. These are examples of fixed phrases in which part of the lexical components – often only one, which can also be incomplete – is an obligatory part of the constructions (the so-called anchor), while other places in the construction are variable (with so-called fillers or slots). The range of fillers in these slots can be very wide, but the range of elements that appear in open slots is a continuum that can be ordered by frequency, classified semantically and assigned to pragmatic functions on this basis.
