Today, communication in the pedagogical process is increasingly carried out through written messages - emails, messages on bulletin boards, doors of playrooms, etc. In the master's thesis, we focused on the latter. We notice that educators and assistant educators have quite a few problems with correct writing, as a result, there are more and more spelling errors in written texts, which affects the quality of work in the process of education. In the theoretical part of the master's thesis, we defined the Slovenian language in the educational process. We emphasized the importance of communication skills and spelling adequacy of written texts and also focused on cooperation with parents in kindergarten. We presented spelling manuals, paying special attention to the Slovenian spelling. In the last part of the theoretical part, we presented the advantages and limitations of digital tools and the professional development and training of educators. In the empirical part of the master's thesis, we presented the results of a survey conducted among preschool teachers and their assistants who were employed in random kindergartens across Slovenia in the 2024/25 kindergarten year. We were interested in the actual spelling knowledge of preschool teachers. We analyzed the opinions of preschool teachers about the importance of properly written texts and determined whether written communication represents stress for preschool teachers. We were also interested in the extent to which they participate in spelling training. The aim of the survey was to gain insight into the spelling ability of preschool teachers and their assistants in randomly selected kindergartens across Slovenia. We found that the spelling knowledge of preschool teachers and their assistants varies depending on individual areas of spelling. They have the best grasp of the rules on the use of capital and lowercase letters, writing a hyphen, main numerals, and the use of abbreviations and acronyms. However, they demonstrate poorer knowledge when writing commas, non-hyphens, dashes, and ordinal numerals. Knowledge in none of the spelling areas is completely flawless. Based on the results of the survey, we conclude that awareness of the correct use of spelling should be increased and additional training in this area should be organized.
