As the job market becomes more competitive, developing professional competencies has become a top priority for schools aiming to prepare students for future professional careers. This master's thesis examines the perspectives of students at the Anton Martin Slomšek Gymnasium concerning the influence of sports engagement on the development of such competencies. While sports are often seen merely as a recreational activity, they can also serve as a crucial platform for cultivating essential professional skills.
The research explores how students perceive the transfer of skills gained through sports—like teamwork, leadership, time management, and the ability to handle stress—into their future careers. It also seeks to identify which specific professional competencies students believe are most influenced by their sports experiences. A significant aspect of this research is to assess students' attitudes toward the career value of these competencies, particularly in relation to how sports involvement shapes their employability and readiness for the job market.
By analysing these aspects, the thesis seeks to contribute to the broader understanding of how sports participation—both extracurricular and within school programs—can influence career readiness. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis, the study highlights not only students' perceptions but also the necessity of incorporating sports into educational frameworks aimed at competency development.
