The master's thesis is grounded in three distinct areas of professional cycling: training, servicing, and television commentary on races. The division of the field according to the medium of communication enabled the observation of the linguistic means typical of the field in question. Theoretically, the thesis defines all three main concepts of the title, i.e. cycling as a field and basis for cycling discourse, within which specific linguistic means appear that shape cycling jargon. The theoretical definitions are linked to the analysis of material collected in various communication situations. The analysis observes the formation of jargonisms, i.e. the processes of jargonization, from the perspective of their adoption into Slovenian and the word-formation and meaning formation processes in the domestic lexicon.
