The Olympic Games are the world’s leading international sporting event, where thousands of athletes from around the globe proudly represent their sovereign countries and territories, watched by a worldwide audience. The Olympic Games are an important global event that promotes international cooperation and cultural exchange. The origins of the Olympic Games date back to 1894, when the first modern Games were organized. Since then, the Olympic Games have experienced significant growth and development. The development of the Olympic Games brings numerous challenges and controversies. Hosting the Olympic Games can bring substantial economic benefits and challenges to the host city, affecting infrastructure, tourism, and local communities. The guardian and the strongest institution of the Olympic Games is the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which has an international character and mission. Its responsibilities range from ensuring the regular organization of the Olympic Games to promoting and spreading Olympic ideals, principles, and rules worldwide. The fundamental charter adopted by the guardian of the Olympic Games, which codifies the core principles of Olympism as well as the rules and subsidiary acts, is the Olympic Charter. Another important legal instrument is the Nairobi Agreement, whose signatory states are obligated to protect the Olympic symbol, along with agreements between the IOC and host countries, international sports regulations, and other legal acts. In my master’s thesis, I will also address other relevant legal instruments influencing ethical principles, environmental protection, and intellectual property rights. Together, these legal documents form a comprehensive framework that ensures the transparent, fair, and sustainable organization of the Olympic Games.
