The MA thesis focuses on the use of VR or ˝Virtual reality˝ technology, which when properly used, has enourmous potential for use in museums and is categorized under the term ˝Information and communications technology˝. VR represents a complex technological tool, which is mainly used to create digital environments. Consequently the term VE or ˝virtual evironment˝ has started to become more common. In this part of the thesis a few examples of VR presentations of prehistoric sites will be listed. After that is the presentation of the Divje babe I. site, where the famous Mousterian flute was found in 1995 and could be the world´s oldest instrument made by a Neanderthal. Our understanding of Neanderthals has gradually increased in the last decades. For this reason, a larger part of the thesis will present the latest Neanderthal discoveries, which have an important impact on the interpretation and creation of the VR experience. Some of the possible methods of making a 3D model of the Divje babe I. cave with all of its natural elements, which represent the cornerstone of the virtual experience, will be described in the last part of the thesis. The potential form of the virtual experience and options for possible updates will also be presented. The potential of the cave site for a virtual reconstruction, which could be used as a part of a museum exhibition, will also be rated.
