The master’s thesis examines six contemporary Slovenian poetry collections, concentrating on their topics and lyric speech characteristics. The collections analysed are: Navsezadnje (After All) by Aleš Berger, Valter by Borja Bolčina, Nekajkrat smo zašli, zdaj se vračamo (We Lost Our Way a Few Times, Now We Are Returning) by Miljana Cunta, Rojstvo oaze (Birth of an Oasis) by Ivan Dobnik, Vračanje k čistosti (Returning to Purity) by Robert Simonišek, and Tuskulum by Denis Škofič. The criterion for selection was the nomination for the Jenko award in 2024. In the theoretical part, the poetry collections are put into the context of Slovenian poetry, the history and importance of the Jenko award in Slovenia is described, and the authors are briefly presented. The main part begins with an analysis of the construction and style, motives and topics, and lyric speech of each collection separately. This is followed by a comparison of common themes: returning, poetological theme and criticism of the contemporary world are pointed out. Lastly, the thesis focuses on the characteristics of lyric speech, finding them diverse, the most prominent being confession of personal experience and a dialogical attitude.
