In my thesis, I deal with love as a philosophical category in Vladimir Bartol's novel Alamut; I constantly compare my findings with Pascal Bruckner's novel Love of One's Neighbor. Before discussing this, I outline the general features of Bartol's philosophy and present the novel Alamut from a philosophical perspective. Here, I connect it with the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche and the thinking of the real Ismailis. Love is presented in the novel from four perspectives: the first is homoeroticism, the second is manipulativeness, the third is ascension on the ladder of love, and the fourth is the supposed highest goal, i.e., renunciation of love.
