Environmental protection and the impact of environmental damage are key issues in
modern society. International organisations are developing legislative frameworks and
strategies for sustainable development. In Slovenia, this area is regulated by Acts,
Programmes and strategies, which tailor measures to specific local needs. This
Master's thesis addresses environmental protection factors such as sustainable
mobility, air quality, noise pollution, water quality, waste management and green space
preservation. The aim of the research is to assess the satisfaction of the inhabitants
of the municipalities of Kranj, Krbko and Litija with these factors and to provide
recommendations. This work contributes to a better understanding of environmental
policies and their placement in a European context. The survey is based on a
questionnaire administered to the inhabitants of three Slovenian municipalities.
Quantitative analysis methods such as analysis of variance and t-test were used to
test satisfaction according to the demographic characteristics of the residents.
Satisfaction with environmental protection varies across the studied municipalities,
with residents of Litija reporting the lowest satisfaction results. Satisfaction is also
influenced by gender, age, and education. Particular attention was paid to the
international comparison of air quality and noise pollution factors, comparing the data
of Slovenian municipalities with the European Commission survey (2023). The results
indicate that satisfaction with noise levels is lower in Slovenian municipalities, while
satisfaction with air quality is higher. The results also provide insight into the current
state of environmental protection in the selected municipalities, help identify
challenges and make recommendations for environmental factors improvement. This
work contributes to the development of environmental policy, as the data obtained can
serve as a basis for action at local and national level and encourage to improve
environmental protection practices.
