This master's thesis explores the political and ideological dimensions of the Curva sud supporters stand of the AS Roma football club. The central research question focuses on identifying the political ideologies that have shaped this stand throughout its history and their transformation over time. Using qualitative content analysis, historical contextualization, ethnographic observation, and comparative approaches, the study demonstrates that Curva sud has functioned as a space of political expression, initially marked by anti-fascist and left-wing symbols, later influenced by right-wing tendencies, and now increasingly serving as a symbol of subcultural resistance against modern football. Special attention is given to understanding supporters as active agents in broader socio-political dynamics, with the stand serving as a meaningful reflection of Italy’s wider political environment. Despite ideological shifts, the stand remains a vital space for expressing collective loyalty to both the club and the city, while also functioning as a site of identity negotiation within the football community. In doing so, the thesis offers a deeper understanding of how political ideologies are manifested, reinforced, and transformed within football subcultures and local supporter communities.
