In my thesis, I focused on the development of the Slovene language in Venetian Slavia. Initially, I examined the historical development of the Slovenian language in Venetian Slavia from the first sources to the present day using specialized literature. The first part of the task presents the historical framework, which includes the periods under the Venetian Republic, the Austrian rule, the fascist regime, and post–World War II. Oldest manuscripts, such as the Starogorski and Černjejski manuscripts, are analyzed to prove the early presence of Slovene in this area. Special attention is given to the role of the church and priests in preserving the Slovenian language in times of oppression.
The second part of the task is based on an empirical survey conducted with a questionnaire involving inhabitants of Venetian Slavia across different age groups. The results show that the use of the Slovenian language is highest among the older generations, while younger people use Slovenian less frequently and mainly in private settings.
