Dramatic adaptations are a fixture in Slovenian theatres. The Slovenian playwright and director Dušan Jovanović, author of seven dramatisations, has also devoted himself to this practice and has staged Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina on two occasions. The master’s thesis Dramatic Adaptation of Anna Karenina examines the motives for staging the work and for transferring the novelistic source to the stage, analysing the transformation of the original, the authorial approaches and their interpretation. Particular attention is given to scenography, costume design, dramatic characters and topicalisation.
