The following thesis, which is based on ancient sources, Historia Augusta and Cassius Dio's Roman History, historical articles, and academic literature, discusses all the key aspects of Hadrian's reign, who ruled the Roman Empire between 117 and 138. It presents his foreign and military policy, which at this time became entirely peaceful. During his reign, there were no major uprisings, with the exception of the revolt in Judea. This allowed him to focus on the internal political problems of the empire, intervening in the areas of law, administration, and the economy. Special emphasis will be placed on his activities in the provinces of the Roman Empire, which he travelled through for half of his reign. He showed them great attention, favour, and material support, especially in the form of construction of public and sacred buildings, granting of city rights, and changes to their social life.
