The thesis is focused on exploring the creative and visual space within works of art created in the style of action painting. We define the term "action painting" and explore its evolution from modernism to contemporary art. We define and present the term "action" and use its definition to find common features with the concept under study. We present the general historical context of the time that influenced the development of action painting. We describe action painting through the political and artistic views of the time and its overcoming and separation from traditions. We define the style of action painters, and then, under the influence of their works, we explore our own process of creating artworks. We answer fundamental questions about the influence of the environment on artistic expression – how the environment shapes the use of colors and materials, and how emotions affect the final arc expression. We experiment with painting in the studio and in nature, and explore material reactions. The key findings show that well-being is strongly influenced by the environment where the images are made. Finished works created in nature using non-traditional materials are much more positive than those created indoors.
