The master's thesis deals with the topic of the applicability of anthropological knowledge in psychiatric practice and the preparation of a plan and strategy for the integration of anthropological methods and the connection of anthropologist positions to the psychiatric team. First, the history of anthropology and psychiatry, its divergences and convergences, is presented within the framework of scientific disciplines. In the following, the author tries to show the influence of cultural and social factors and their limitations in psychiatric practice and cites examples of culturally affected approaches to health. In the central part, the author describes the interactions between psychiatric staff and patients of different cultures and the
use of anthropological methods within psychiatry. In the last part, she first presents the position and tasks that an anthropologist could perform on a global level, and then locates the position of an anthropologist in Slovenia. The author links this with the ethnographic fieldwork conducted at Maribor University Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry, Unit of Forensic Psychiatry, where she collected impressions and opinions from the staff about the usefulness of anthropological knowledge and the potential integration of an anthropologist into the psychiatric team.
