In my thesis, I will write and research how colors can affect people. I will focus on visitors and counsellors of the psychosocial counselling centre of the University of Ljubljana, on which I will design a painting for the space they use. In the theoretical part of the thesis, I will focus most on color. I will write about what color is, how we see it, and define it as an artistic element in art. I will also mention its development throughout history. Color is also very important in symbolism and psychology. Each spectral color can have a different meaning and symbolism. If we want to create something with color, it is also important to know how it affects the space and the surroundings. I will present different contrasts, where they are used, and how they are created. I will also focus on color in space and the role of the psychosocial counselling centre.
In the practical part of the thesis, I will use digital media and use color to create the final painting for the school counselling service. I will research which colors are most suitable for a space that helps different people. I will introduce artists Poul Gernes and Thomas Kilpper and analyse how they create with colors and affect space. I will also compare their works with different public spaces and identify the differences between them. I will put myself in the role of artist and interior designer and create a color palette and design that would suit a psychosocial counselling centre. I will also help myself with a short survey with counsellors, which will help me get their opinions and wishes regarding the painting. Based on this, I will create a scheme of the final product.
