The master's thesis deals with physical fitness and musculoskeletal problems that cellists face due to prolonged playing in specific postures. This is the main source of physical strain. Playing the cello requires prolonged forced sitting. Repetitive movements often lead to problems in the neck, shoulders and back, which can lead to pain and injury. Therefore, it is important for musicians to understand the importance of physical fitness, proper posture while sitting and the ergonomic requirements of playing the instrument in this position. The master's thesis emphasizes the importance of preventive and rehabilitation strategies, including correct posture. Incorrect sitting and incorrect activation of the core muscles can lead to back pain, rotator cuff problems or neuropathy. The lack of education in the field of physical fitness for exercises and injury prevention further aggravates the situation, as for both reasons many musicians recognize physical problems too late or ignore them. Ergonomic adjustments to the height and angle of musical chairs, proper posture, and targeted exercises to increase muscle strength are three main methods of injury prevention. Programs such as yoga, Pilates, the Feldenkrais method, and the Alexander technique are highlighted as they help establish stable breathing patterns that allow muscle chains to work together effectively and allow for better movement. Research has shown that physical exercise can reduce muscle tension, increase a musician's strength endurance, and prevent injuries. In this way, musicians can extend their professional musical careers. In this master's thesis, we identify a high incidence of musculoskeletal problems among musicians, especially string players. Music institutions should promote health education for musicians and pay more attention to physical fitness. Furthermore, a subjective approach is essential for the development of long-term strategies for the health of musicians, which can be crucial for the artists themselves to improve the quality of their artistic creation.
