The purpose of the diploma thesis was the production of a short 2D animation with the use of software called Toon Boom Harmony. The final product was a three minute long animated film called Gro and Njal, which tells a story of two Vikings named Gro and Njal, who go on an adventure. Gro finds a sword on the ground and takes it with her. RIght after that they build a campfire and go to sleep in the woods. In the middle of the night Gro wakes up and sees a shooting star in the sky. A sword falls from the shooting star and lands on the burned out campfire. The campfire suddently starts burning again and an unknown person rises from the fire, which starts attacking Gro.
The theoretical part of the thesis describes an overview of animation. It also covers the history of 2D animation from the prehistoric age to animation on the television and on the internet. The theoretical part also covers the tvelve principles of animation and an overview of three computer programs for creating 2D animation.
The experimental part of the thesis covers the whole proces of creating a 2D animation with Toon Boom Harmony. The production of an animation includes three phases: pre-production, production and post-production. In the pre-production faze we have written a synopsys and a sceenplay. We have even created a storyboard and drawn character sheets. In the production faze we were animating in Toon Boom Harmony. For our animation we have used two ways of animating. Those were Frame-by-Frame and animating using Keyframes. We have added drawn backgrounds and a couple of effects to our animation. In the post-production phase we have combined all of our rendered scenes together and added sound and music.
