The master’s thesis focuses on the topic of reurbanization of the city center of Celje. The goal of the
thesis is to revitalize degraded areas, improve public spaces, preserve cultural heritage, and promote social
and economic development. It identifies key challenges such as the depopulation of the city center, the loss of
residential functions, and the diminishing local identity.
In search of solutions, the thesis emphasizes the integration of blue-green systems, which contribute to a more
pleasant and resilient urban environment by adding green spaces and water elements. Measures to improve
accessibility and quality of life are also proposed, such as expanding public spaces, promoting sustainable
mobility, and optimizing the use of existing buildings.
Special attention is given to a comprehensive renovation that respects the historical character of the city while
introducing modern approaches to urban development. With a balanced approach that combines cultural
heritage preservation, sustainable spatial solutions, and contemporary urban planning principles, Celje could
once again become an attractive, vibrant, and functional city center.
