Homelessness is a social and public health issue, the extent of which has been increasing in Slovenia over the years. Living in homelessness poses physical and mental health risks, but this fact is often overlooked when dealing with homeless people. Homelessness is often perceived as a personal choice, and homeless people are accompanied by various stigmas, which make it even more difficult for them to reintegrate into society. It has been proven that homeless people have additional problems that they face in addition to homelessness, which can directly or indirectly hinder them from getting out of homelessness. However, in Slovenia there is an extensive network of institutions and organizations that work with the homeless population, there are no official data regarding statistics, neither the number of currently homeless persons nor the number of successful exits from homelessness. The aim of the master’s thesis was to determine psychological and environmental factors of exit from homelessness. The participants (n=8) were people who made a way out of homelessness. I conducted semi-structured interviews with them, but the data was processed using the method of thematic analysis. Three themes were identified: Psychological factors, Environmental factors, and Psychological-environmental factors. Also, each theme has its own subcategories. The results should help experts in this field to immediately identify persons who have the greatest probability of exiting homelessness, determine the area and type of assistance that an individual needs, and provide advice for working with the homeless population.
