Environmental protection is a pressing issue as environmental changes bring various
negative consequences. Implementing different measures is crucial to ensuring a
healthy environment. Environmental protection factors include water quality, waste
management, air quality, noise pollution, sustainable mobility, and forest conservation.
In this thesis, we examined how satisfied the citizens of the Municipality of Žiri are with
environmental protection factors. In the research, we used a quantitative method, more
specifically an online survey of citizens from the selected municipality. We tested the
hypotheses using inferential statistical analysis, applying the t-test. A total of 218
citizens of the Municipality of Žiri fully completed the survey questionnaire. The findings
indicate that citizens are most satisfied with water quality, followed by air quality, forest
conservation, waste management, noise pollution, with sustainable mobility being the
least satisfactory factor. We confirmed that the majority of citizens are, on average,
satisfied with the environmental protection factors in the Municipality of Žiri. We also
found out that citizens' satisfaction with water quality differs from their satisfaction with
air quality. The results are also showing that citizens residing in the town of Žiri are less
satisfied with air quality compared to those living in surrounding areas. Based on these
findings, we recommend the Municipality of Žiri to increase the network of bus
connections, build new bicycle paths, pedestrian paths, and sidewalks, provide regular
email updates from the municipality, and organize more community clean-up events.
