Introduction: Fibromylagia is a chronic musculoskeletal syndrome, characterized by pain that is present even in the absence of external stimuli. Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, problems with cognitive functions, depression and difficulty performing daily activities. Occupational therapists most often come into contact with fibromyalgia in the context of multidisciplinary treatment. The aim of occupational therapy intervention is to improve participation in daily activities and improve the overall quality of life. Purpose: The purpose of the diploma work is to determine what is currently known about the role of occupational therapists in the treatment of adults with fibromyalgia and which interventions are used during occupational therapy. Methods: A literature review was conducted. The literature search was carried out in the databases CINAHL, PubMed, Web of Science, Medline and COBISS. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were taken into account, and articles were evaluated for relevance and quality. Results: 10 articles were icluded in the final analysis. We identifed four themes: Roles and interventions of the occupational therapist in the managment of fibromyalgia, Applicability of the Lifestyle Redesign® practice framework, Potencial of occupational therapy in the treatment of people with fibromyalgia, and Challenges of occupational therapy of people with fibromyalgia. Discussion and conclusion: Occupational therapy plays an important role, especially in the context of multidisciplinary teams that treat people with fibromyalgia. Interventions are mostly held in groups and clients are most often educated on how to manage pain and fatigue. Occupational therapists that are working with individuals with fibromyalgia often use the Lifestyle Redesign® practice framework. They also advise on activity and environmental adaptations, managing stress, promote greater social inclusion and teach various relaxation techniques. Occupational therapy has a potencial for greater inclusion in the treatment of people with fibromyalgia, because it can provide an exceptional help in carrying out activities of daily living, mantaining work or returning to workplace, and better inclusion in social life. However, occupational therapy is still under-recognized among the people and consequently it is difficult to get a proper treatment of fibromyalgia.
