Various energy sources are used in Slovenian households and commercial facilities, requiring regular consumption monitoring. Manual gas meter reading is often time-consuming and costly, highlighting the need for a remote reading system that enables better distribution planning and cost monitoring. To address this, the public company Energetika Celje d.o.o. has initiated the modernization of its outdated manual gas reading system, which includes developing a mobile application and improving the user interface.
This thesis focuses on the key functionalities of a management and remote reading system for devices in the gas network. The project is based on the currently active manual reading system, which relies on outdated handheld devices. Additionally, it was essential to consider the hardware required for remote readings to achieve the highest flexibility and efficiency for the new system.
The project's objective was to develop a user interface that provides easy access to data on remote reading devices such as the Apulse x375, Apulse x3F5, and OKO5575, with fast navigation via a scrollable list. The system also enables automatic data updates when devices are uninstalled or reinstalled, ensuring that information remains current. Furthermore, it includes an overview of active tasks, facilitating regular operations such as gas meter replacements and installations.
The experimental section presents the user interface design process based on adapting the existing system. The key development goal is to improve the user experience and enable efficient use of the gas reading system. The interface includes a navigation menu and taskbar to quickly access notifications, tasks, and other essential functions.
The graphic elements were designed using programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, XD, and Procreate, ensuring flexibility across multiple platforms. Prototyping in Adobe XD supported visualizing interactions between users and the system and enabled the integration of dynamic functionalities.
The modernized user interface emphasizes intuitive and functional design and provides easy access to crucial functions such as task navigation, storage, and settings. The navigation menu and taskbar offer quick access to features like search, communication, and advanced settings, increasing clarity and productivity in managing measurement devices.
