This master's thesis focuses on translating and analyzing the initial chapters of an ethnological textbook called »L'ethnologie«, which is translated from French into Slovenian language. The first theoretical section of the thesis introduces the most crucial concepts related to the theory of translating professional texts, which clarify the meanings of terms like translation studies, terminology, and synonymy. The second part of this thesis provides an analysis of the translation of selected chapters from L'ethnologie and comprises five sections, each of which addresses translation issues within the chosen text in a comprehensive manner. These sections cover the following levels: textual, morphological, lexical and syntactic, and stylistic level. These levels are examined solely from the perspective of translation challenges, rather than general linguistic features and regularities involved in meaning transfer between language systems. In the conclusion, the main translation challenges and solutions identified through the translation analysis are first summarized in Slovenian, followed by a presentation of the entire Master's thesis and the translation analysis results in French. Finally, the thesis includes two comprehensive appendices: a glossary of specialized ethnological terminology (French-Slovenian) and a complete translation of the selected chapters of the source text into Slovenian.
