In the thesis, we studied the fiancés' preparation for marriage and their psychological maturity. First, we investigated what is written in civil and ecclesiastical documents about the preparation of fiancés for marriage. In doing so, we focused on the Family Code, the Code of Canon Law, the Apostolic Letter to the Family (Familiaris Consortio), the Joy of Love (Amorsi Laetitia), the Catechumenal Way for Married Life and the Roman Rota. We have found that psychological maturity is the key to a successful marriage. We further examined what exactly is written about the psychological maturity of betrothed persons in civil law, the Code of Canon Law and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We have noticed that the psychological maturity of the betrothed is rarely mentioned in the literature in comparison with the preparation for marriage. In the last part of the thesis, we looked at psychological immaturity and the resulting inhibitions that can prevent marriage. We conclude that in order to create a happy society based on successful marriages, it is essential to educate young people from childhood onwards for fair and healthy relationships and to support and accompany parents as spouses in their family life. This would foster mutual support, understanding and encouragement and establish a solid foundation for the development of quality marital relationships.
