Introduction: In occupational therapy, personal contact is typically used; however, under certain circumstances, remote therapy can be implemented, which is crucial when access to traditional therapy is limited. Advances in information and communication technology and the digitalization of the healthcare sector enable the development of remote therapy, bringing significant changes for both users and occupational therapists. Objective: Given the increasing use of remote therapy in the field of occupational therapy, the aim of this thesis is to examine existing data on this practice. We focused on the experiences of occupational therapists and users of occupational therapy with remote therapy. Methods: This thesis involved a comprehensive review of scientific and professional literature focusing on the research area of remote therapy in occupational therapy. Relevant sources were gathered using search databases such as CINAHL, Web of Science, PubMed, and OTSeeker. We included studies that investigate the experiences of users and occupational therapists with remote therapy, evaluating the quality of articles and performing descriptive analysis and thematic synthesis of the data. Results: The analysis included a total of 11 articles, of which seven studies were conducted using qualitative methods, while four studies employed a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. Two themes were identified: Accessible and Flexible Therapy in the Natural Environment and Limitations, Risks, and Challenges, each with corresponding subthemes. Discussion and Conclusion: Remote therapy enabled uninterrupted delivery of occupational therapy services during the pandemic and improved accessibility and family involvement. Despite challenges such as technical issues and the need for additional training, remote therapy can significantly reduce the lack of early and continuous intervention. To ensure the highest quality of remote therapy, continuous monitoring and adaptation of approaches are essential to maximize the benefits of this form of occupational therapy. Remote therapy has become a key element of modern occupational therapy, enhancing service accessibility and family involvement in the therapeutic process. To achieve its full potential, it is crucial to provide adequate technical support, train therapists, and adapt therapeutic methods for remote work. Continuous monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of remote therapy are important to ensure its efficacy and quality in occupational therapy practice.
