The purpose of this graduation thesis is to evaluate the condition and to propose protection measures for the protected Gašpers chesnut tree in Radeče. Survey of the tree and its sourrounding revealed the presence of different fungal species: Amanita vaginata, Collybia fusipes, Cryphonectria parasitica, Fistulina hepatica, Laetiporus sulphureus, Xerocomus rubéllus. Their impact to the health of the tree is evaluated. Harmful biotic factors which are potentionally threatening the tree but are not yet present are also evaluated. Dryocosmus kuriphilus and Phytophthora cambivora are identified as the most important. The tree is rather vital. Besides chestnut cancer the most serious threat for the existence of the tree are the fungi Laetiporus sulphureus which decompose the wood quickly and Collybia fusipes which is the cause of root dieback. As a measure of tree protection there is a need for radical prunning of dead branches, while trying to minimize the damage done tothe living parts of the tree.
