The aim of this thesis is to present the Savsko naselje neigbourhood in Ljubljana from two perspectives: art-historical and sociological. The neighborhood, constructed in the second half of the 20th century as one of the measures to address the housing shortage in socialist Ljubljana, is the result of collaboration of several architects. After describing Yugoslav housing policy after World War II and providing an overview of the construction of Savsko naselje, the thesis proceeds to examine the urbanistic concept of residential neighborhoods and compares it with its implementation in Savsko naselje. It also deals with the concept of cultural heritage, especially the preservation of modernist architecture in the neighborhood, while exploring the residents' attitudes towards this issue. The final part of the thesis explores the concept of the urban in sociology and through this addresses the establishment of community within the neighborhood, both in the past and present, with an emphasis on community projects and activities of the residents.
