Private forest owners and their forest operations in storm damaged forests in Žalec Forest Management Unit were observed. The data basis consists of data gathered from the survey (n=50). The methodological approach was based on questionnaire preparation and the survey analysis. The aim of this diploma was to find out if the forest owners are qualified for their work, educated and prepared to cooperate and if they observe safety. The characteristics of households, the way of acquiring knowledge, forest management, a cooperation of forest owners, safety at work, safety equipment, and forest education had been closely examined. The survey analysis has shown that the forest owners actively work in their forests. In the most cases they were taught how to work by their fathers. The forest owners do not cooperate much as long as they do, the co-operatives predominate. It was found out that the forest owners still do not pay enough attention to safety at work and personal safety equipment, even though their knowledge of safety at work is better compared to the knowledge of forest operation. There were no statistics differences among acquiring knowledge, a size of forest property, a social-economic category of a household and the age of owners. The forest owners are especially interested in cooperating at selling wood. On the other hand, a great percentage of wood is meant for home use.
