In the master's thesis, we study internal communication within an organisation and employee engagement. We focused on the impact of internal communication on employee engagement. We selected this topic because we were interested in the level of employee satisfaction with individual dimensions of internal communication, the level of employee engagement and the impact of satisfaction with internal communication on engagement in the selected organisation.
The thesis consists of two parts. The first part acts as a theoretical basis and is divided into four chapters. In the first chapter, we presented the organisation and organisational communication. In the second chapter, we focused on the impact and importance of internal communication, with an emphasis on leadership and employee satisfaction with internal communication. In the third chapter, we presented employee engagement, characteristics of engaged and disengaged employees, and factors that influence engagement. Finally, in the fourth chapter, we presented the impact of internal communication on employee engagement.
In the empirical part of the thesis, we presented the results and key findings of the quantitative research conducted in the selected organisation. We found that employees are generally satisfied with internal communication. They are most satisfied with communication with their manager, and least with informal communication. We found that the level of employee engagement is very high. The employees achieved the highest average value in the dimension of dedication, which means that they are dedicated to their work and perceive it as challenging and stimulating. We also found that employee satisfaction with internal communication has a positive effect on employee engagement. The more employees are satisfied with internal communication, the higher is their engagement. Finally, we found that satisfaction with organisational communication has the most significant impact on employee engagement, while employee satisfaction with feedback does not impact employee engagement.
