In the master's thesis, we proposed a plan for a regional cycling route in the southern part of the Municipality of Domžale. We presented theoretical foundations for planning cycling infrastructure and, using the example of the Municipality of Domžale, demonstrated an approach to integrating the cycling route into the space with a methodology for evaluating and comparing different variants. The basis for planning was the design of the cycling network of the Ljubljana Urban Region. After reviewing strategic documents, scientific bases, and the current state of the area, we found that the southern part of the Municipality of Domžale is poorly equipped with cycling infrastructure and cycling connections. The thesis shows the process of integrating the regional cycling route R11 between Domžale and Ljubljana, connecting to the existing cycling network of the Municipality of Ljubljana. We formulated foundations and goals and, considering the criteria and indicators from the spatial analysis, planned three different variants of the new cycling route. All proposed variants of the cycling connections were evaluated based on spatial, functional, and protective aspects. In final part of options appraisal, we conducted a synthetic evaluation and suggested the most suitable variant of the cycling route, which complements the existing network of cycling routes in the southern part of the Municipality of Domžale and provided examples of possible arrangements for the selected cycling route variant. With the proposal to integrate the new regional cycling route Domžale – Ljubljana, we are to highlight the advantage of comprehensive planning of cycling routes and contribute to the selection of the most optimal cycling route R11, which will be part of the national cycling network. In conclusion, we proposed some measures for further planning of cycling infrastructure in the Municipality of Domžale.
