I spent part of my childhood in Jesenice, which led me to believe that I knew the town well. However, while preparing this project, I discovered new insights into what this town offers and what it needs to improve the quality of life for its residents.
The area under consideration at Hrenovica is a space where the ironworks buildings once stood. The space is neglected and abandoned, and in my opinion, it urgently needs a thorough renovation. This would provide Jesenice with a new gathering place, which, with a well-thought-out program, would further connect the townspeople. The lifespan of people in our region is increasing. However, too little attention is paid to the quality of life in each stage of life. Genuine social interaction is very important for our development and existence in today's age, marked by the flood of modern technology and a fast-paced lifestyle. During childhood, important factors include education, relaxation, recreation, and connecting with different generations.
All generations have common points: recreation, connection, social interaction, and learning from each other. Thus, I concluded that I should present a complex on the degraded area that will be intended for all generations. The concept emphasizes the hybrid use of space and aesthetically harmonizes with the surrounding landscape features. The complex would offer multiple halls for various programs, spaces for cultural, sports, and educational events... The program could extend directly from the interior to the exterior, which would be mainly intended for recreational leisure time. The transparent design would unite the surroundings and the architectural object, incorporating activities that take place in all seasons.
The master's thesis shows how generations can connect at all stages of life if they have a dedicated space for it in one place.
