The master's thesis discovers the process of creating a photographic zine, a collection of photographs in the form of a printed publication, which in most cases is simple, handmade and self-published. For easier understanding of the zine concept, an overview of the history of the zine and examples from the past is presented, as well as how the photo zine as we know today was created from a fanzine. That is supported by the definitions of the zine by various theorists who are active experts in this field. The research includes an overview of the current state of the photographic zine, as well as working artists, both at home and abroad, where the zine is already an established photographic medium. The objectives of the overview of existing zines are comparison of different photography zines, overview of the influence of the zine format on its message, and the extraction of ideas for the final product, the photography zine. The subject of the research is self-publishing and the changes in photography caused by the introduction of the photography zine. The research asks questions about what constitutes a quality photographic zine, and what are good practices in the selection of the topic and the method of producing a photographic zine. At this point, different approaches to collecting and editing the material are discussed – photographs, necessary for producing a photography zine. Based on the findings of what constitutes a quality photographic zine, a decision is made during the master's thesis for the topic of the photographic zine, which is created along the research process. The process of editing is shown – selecting photos, paper, printing techniques, binding and designing the zine into a meaningful whole. At the end, the final product is presented, an author's photo zine. The master's thesis's purpose is researching the use of photographic zines in photography, an overview of good practices, and production of a photographic zine.
