This paper studies the technology of wood residue utilization. The making of wood chips from wood residues is a rather unknown and unresearched matter. The study includes the gathering of wood residues with the Timberjack 1410D forwarder and the cutting of wood residues with the Bruks 801 C mobile chipperto Ecolog 574 B. Rates relating to different procedures of the work done were calculated for both of these operations. The paper also deals with the problem of bulk density determination or determination of wood residue quantity per unit volume. Inaccurate measurement of residue quantity per unit volume can lead to an unexpected total quantity of wood chips produced from them. Their bulk density at the particular water content was determined according to the tree species. On the basis of this data, the energy value of wood chips and wood residues was determined.
