The purpose of the master's thesis was to introduce e-sports, as many people still have no clue
what kind of activity it is.
E-sport is a title for a competition in video games, which is very interesting to a growing number
of people due to its specifics. Sport refers to forms of organized physical activity that have their
own rules and require physical strength. One of the key differences between eSports and sports
is the location of the event or game. Participating in e-sports requires a good computer and a
good Internet connection, which means that players do not necessarily need to be physically
located in a certain place to play, as is the case with conventional sports. In terms of
organization, sports and e-sports are very similar, as the organization of tournaments, sponsors,
spectators and commentators are the main actors of e-sports tournaments. There is much more
debate these days about whether eSports is a 'sport' or not, the best contested segment being the
physical activity of eSports. Professional e-athletes spend a lot of time at the game console, as
a result of which various types of injuries to the wrist, spine, and so on are possible, but mostly
of a lower intensity. Other problems faced by e-athletes are problems with sleep, nutrition,
mental and emotional health.
The master's thesis presents an overview of e-sports from the first video games to today's major
e-sports competitions. Its main features are presented. The following is an interview with
professional e-sportsman Peter Brljak, who will provide information about e-sports
competitions in the racing simulator rFactor 2, in which he competes. Petar is a member of the
Alpine E-sports team. The goal is to present e-sport, which contributes to the understanding of
this activity with the given argumentation.
The content of the master's thesis is intended for everyone who is interested in e-sports. The
assignment may contribute to the further academic treatment of eSports.
