The main topic of this article is interactive e-books, which have been appearing over the past decades. These are e-books that establish interaction with the reader. The article proposes that interactive e-books can be divided into augmented e-books, in which the basic text is accompanied by multimedia additions, and ambient e-books that respond to the reader’s environment. Some researchers also include gaming e-books (i.e., computer games with certain literary characteristics) among interactive e-books. Only a few interactive e-books have been released in Slovenia, and the article places special emphasis on the augmented e-picture book Maček Muri (Muri the Cat) released in 2002.
