The topic of the master’s thesis is intergenerational living and cooperation. It deals with the social and demographic changes of the population, which represent a challenge in the creation of concepts of modern neighborhoods suitable for intergenerational living. It also provides a conceptual solution for the urban design of the neighborhood in Celje.
In the introduction, the problem of inclusion of individual social groups is presented from a sociological point of view, the needs of the elderly are discussed, and the situation in the field of intergenerational cooperation and institutional care of the elderly is critically assessed. The basis for the planning and design of the neighborhood are theoretical starting points together with examples of good practices from abroad. The design of the intergenerational neighborhood in Celje is based on detailed analyzes of the area and thoughtfully includes the existing attributes of the area. The concept covers the definition of the principles and typologies of the intended residential units, the determination of traffic connections, the system of green areas, the intended active meeting zones and a new program scheme.
The result of the task is a modern urban design of a neighborhood in Celje, which is intended for living and cooperation of all generations. Intergenerational connection is created through the thoughtful design and placement of typologies by creating meeting and socializing zones, complemented by accompanying programs and activities.
