This Master’s thesis analyzes and deals with the
problem of the aging population. One of its
related causes is the increasing costs of healthcare
services due to increasingly frequent
aging-related medical procedures and treatments.
Thus, long-term care costs will increase
rapidly and faster than other healthcare
services.
Due to the coming demographic changes, it
makes sense to focus on treating the elderly
because in the long run, it could relieve the
healthcare system. Moreover, the healthcare
system is improving along with technological
advances. The advances bring cost-efficient
and faster solutions for disease treatment and a
more considerate approach toward patients.
The creators of healthcare institutions strive to
introduce more and more greenery into hospital
internal and external arrangements that
provide a better working environment for
employees and can contribute to faster recovery
of patients.
The focus area is located on the right bank of
the Ljubljanica river. Currently, that is where the
Zavod za prestajanje kazni zapora (hereinafter
referred to as ZPKZ) operates. When the purpose
of ZPKZ changes, the plan is to empty the
premises and completely renovate it into a
center for geriatrics and palliative care with
additional research
laboratories.
The convenient location in the urban city center
unites various healthcare services in a single
spot. The expected results are to shorten unnecessary
movements of patients around the UKC
(University Medical Center Ljubljana) area,
relieve the healthcare services in general, and
connect the hospital with the residential area.
