This article presents the easy-read system from the perspective of promoting reading literacy and inclusion. This system has become well developed in Slovenia over the past ten years. Easy read is a way of providing information to people with specific learning disabilities. In Slovenia, fiction, a newspaper, and recently the Slovenian Constitution and the Social Inclusion of Disabled Persons Act have been made available in the easy-read format. The easy-read goals should be understood in at least two ways: from the perspective of promoting reading literacy among various groups of individuals and from the perspective of an inclusive society. Easy-read users include not only persons with intellectual disabilities, but also individuals with specific learning disabilities. Presented in detail is Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet in the easyread format, which primarily differs from the rest of the production in terms of form. It is also the only play converted into the easy-read format in Slovenian.
