A phase diagram graphically illustrates the phases of a heterogeneous system, where the phase represents the homogeneous part. In my thesis I used thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and, in particular, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to create a two-component phase diagram for the compounds ammonium nitrate (AN) and sodium nitrate (NN), the mixture of which forms a eutectic system, i.e. a homogeneous mixture with a melting point lower than the melting points of the individual components. I found that the eutectic point is at the values of 74.735% for AN and 25.265% for NN. Based on the preliminary measurements, an optimal phase diagram with a eutectic point at 73.921 % AN and 26.079 % NN was also constructed.
