This Master's thesis focuses on the »značajnegi krajobraz Lisina«, a protected area located on the western part of the municipality of Matulji, on the border between Primorsko-Goranska County and Istria County, which spatially connects to the Učka Nature Park. The existing Stanko Jurdana Mountain hut is the focus of the project. The building currently does not have a clear purpose, so the basic aim of the thesis was to attempt to design one of the possible solutions for the renovation of the lodge and the reactivation of the Lisina area as a sports and recreational zone.
From the outset, there was a need to activate not only the immediate vicinity around the existing building but also the entire protected area. The equestrian program, which, together with hiking and cycling, expands the activation zone to the whole protected area, was selected as a program that achieves the main goal of the project.
Due to the need to accommodate various programmatic components, such as equestrian facilities, food and beverage services, accommodation, administration, and spaces for rangers who take care of the Lisina area, there was a need to incorporate a new building into the area. During the project, the existing micro-location proved to be the most sensible and it was decided to preserve the existing building as part of the new building. Throughout the thesis, an attempt was made to find a meaningful dialogue between the existing small stone structure and the new multi-purpose building.
