The master's thesis is a set of different researches with which we search for and confirm the positive aspects of publicly accessible ground floors. The process of finding a potential model contains different tests, scenarios and approaches. The results of the "testing" show whether the version is adapted to the needs of public ground floors, or whether the contents achieved by the version support the opening of public ground floors. The basic concepts of the ground floor, the city edge, the vibrancy of the city are defined and their meaning is determined, and the difference between the terms public and private is established. The processing area has tremendous potential, and key infrastructures important for the development of the city are connected to it. The location is limited by strong spatial generators (UKC, MSUM/Metelkova mesto and Tabor).
The main goal of the strategy is to activate passive spaces and create urban and lively ground floors. Place-making ground floors are created through nodes and connections. The principles are applied to spatial interventions, new values of space are created. The strategy is divided into categories according to the character, arrangement and image of the street: strong and dynamic connection, secondary connecting features, active city-forming ground floors, open green areas.
The minimal and radical approach creates a critical view of existing urban arrangements and spatial acts, with the aim of improving the urban quality of the city center, with an emphasis on public ground floors.
The variant solution shows the potential of the considered space and questions the boundaries by placing new buildings and creating a new character of the location.
With this thesis, we want to prevent the continuation of investment urbanism and reduce its negative consequences. From this comes a model that will partly try to reduce this on the basis of solutions based on the needs of the public good.
