The master's thesis focuses on local self-government in Slovenia and addresses its associated challenges. It examines local self-government both at the national level in Slovenia and in comparison with other EU member states. The Municipality of Radovljica and its historical background are presented in detail. Furthermore, the thesis explores the topic of local self-government through the case study of the establishment and development of the new Municipality of Lesce, which separated from the Municipality of Radovljica. By examining the creation of a new municipality and conducting surveys among professionals in the field, the thesis analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of forming smaller municipalities. It also seeks solutions to enhance local self-government in Slovenia. Drawing from the analysis of the new municipality, strategies have been devised for two larger settlements - Lesce and Begunje na Gorenjskem. These strategies ensure that the municipality meets all legal requirements while simultaneously creating a higher-quality living environment.
In the practical project section, four locations have been selected from the areas covered by the prepared strategies. The thesis proposes conceptual designs for urban planning in these selected areas.
