This master’s thesis represents an independent and functional educational unit, whose architecture reflects geographical characteristics and historical context of the Sawmill Rog in the Kočevski Rog area.
The area of Kočevski Rog offers plenty of natural and historical riches, witch often get neglected due to its remoteness and economic decline. Through developmental analyses of the broader area, I have identified a lack of educational infrastructure related to school and extracurricular activities. The idea of remoteness and pristine nature directed me to the location of Sawmill Rog, located in the heart of Kočevski Rog. Due to its diverse historical background, numerous natural resources and sports opportunities, the location has exceptional potential for developing an educational center.
The project is divided into the broader context of the urban planning of the location and the narrower context of the design of the educational center with accompanying adjacent dormitory buildings. The concept considers original village design, but critically addresses it from the perspective of self-sustaining planning. In the thesis, I focused on the balance between rational design that responds to the needs of today's time and a quality interpretation of historical heritage.
