Mosses are a very diverse group of terrestrial plants. They are found virtually everywhere in the world, especially in shady and humid environments, but also in deserts and arctic tundra. They are an ideal study group in schools, as they are found at any time of the year. They can be easily stored or dried and revitalized after a short period of dryness (Stagg, Donkin and Smith, 2015). The main purpose of the master's thesis was to produce didactic materials to help teachers teach about moss in both primary and secondary schools. The preparation of didactic materials was carried out through the analysis of textbooks for the 4th, 6th and 7th grade of elementary school and secondary school with a gymnasium programme and an overview of scientific literature. Textbooks were analyzed according to the current learning plans. According to the terminology used in textbooks and terminology used in the subject Systematic Botany at the Department of Biology of the Biotechnical Faculty of UL, the proposed terminology for each grade of elementary and secondary school is also included in the didactic materials. For better understanding we also tested 6 activities of which 4 are time-appropriate and inclusive for students. As an additional didactic tool, educational cards and a poster were prepared, presenting 5 representatives of each major group of mosses, which also grow in Slovenia. All successful activities, educational cards and poster are included in didactic materials for teaching about these overlooked plants, which have a huge impact on our lives, despite being aware of it.
