The thesis presents the spatial development of the Old Square and its surroundings as a result of a number of historical events that have influenced the change of its cultural landscape in different periods. With the help of literature and preserved plans, we have tried to outline how the area has evolved from the foundation of the settlement below Castle Hill to the present day, and what consequences the changes that conditioned the development of the area until the end of the 20th century have had on the space. In addition, the social and functional transformation of the Old Square from the turn of the millennium to the present day is presented, with an emphasis on gentrification and touristisation, which have a significant impact on the development and image of old town centres today. A more detailed analysis of the chosen topic was facilitated by a survey of the inhabitants of the Old Square, in which they were asked about the advantages and disadvantages of living in the Old Square. The data obtained were also presented graphically to facilitate the presentation.
